Fear No Music dreaming it is a butterfly

Fear No Music - Once upon a time...

Fear No Music is playing their final concert of the season tonight, featuring highlights of past performances, including recent works by Oregon composers Bonnie Miksch and Mark Vigil, and personal favorites from the likes of Reza Vali, Iannis Xenakis, and Malcolm Forsyth.

Our Once Upon a Time… program cover refers to the Taoist master Chuang Tzu's contemplation as to whether he was "a man dreaming I am a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming I am a man" — which inspired Bonnie Miksch's "Man Dreaming Butterfly Dreaming Man", featured in the concert.

Back to Hearing the Future

Fear No Music - Hearing the Future

Fear No Music‘s annual Young Composers Project concert is today, showcasing the compositions of some very young composers indeed. Our Hearing the Future program cover design hearkens to the forward-looking days of Russian Constructivism, when artists like Vladimir Malevich and El Lissitsky were inventing a dynamic new visual language.

Fear No Music & Casablanca

Fear No Music - Memoirs program cover by Helsinqi

Our friends & clients Fear No Music 21st-century classical ensemble perform the 3rd concert of their 18th season tonight in Portland. The concert, entitled Memoirs, features the works of Golijov, Dutilleux, Lou Harrison, and Elvis Costello, and includes guest vocalists Timothy Nishimoto of Pink Martini and Stephen Marc Beaudoin.

This is Helsinqi’s 3rd season as FNM’s design sponsor, and our 8th print program for them. The Memoirs cover features a detail from a photo Anna took in our hotel room in Casablanca in 2000, set against a ground of ink drips.

Mirrors, reflection, windows, ink, writing, and our own memories mingle in what we hope to be an apropos visual complement to tonight’s music. See the larger cover here.

Fear No Music with a Finn

Fear No Music - Homage program cover by Helsinqi

Client: Fear No Music
Project: print program
Team: Leo Daedalus: graphic design & layout, project management

Our friends & clients Fear No Music 21st-century classical ensemble perform the 1st concert of their 18th season tonight in Portland. The concert, entitled Homage, features Nymphéa, by one of the great contemporary composers, Kaija Saariaho, who happens to be a Finn. Tosi hyvä!

The concert also features Charles Ives, Elliott Carter, George Crumb, Stephen Hartke, and Michael Daugherty. An evening not to miss.

Because the Homage concert has a distinctly nocturnal tone, our cover takes a lunatic turn with a slice of blue moon. Good stuff to put us all in the mood for Hallowe’en…

See the complete print program here, and get full concert information on the Fear No Music site.
